The authors consider social management and a personality-oriented approach as the main tools for improving management efficiency, the latter authors refer to the tools for implementing the educational unit included in the process of improving management. As part of improving management effectiveness, various approaches to improving the level of professional training of management personnel are considered.

Particular attention is paid to the theory of social design, as well as designing the management of the development of the sports and educational space of the university, which the authors consider through the thesaurus approach.

The factors characterizing the management of the development of the physical education and training space of the university as a social project are highlighted, among them: the goal of the project; spatio-temporal and resource boundaries; the impact of the project goal is recognized as socially positive.

The management structure for the development of the physical education and training space of the university is presented, which is based on the rector of the university managing project managers and general and functional departments. Thus, the authors substantiate the use of project management technology in the development of the physical education space of the university. It is noted that the project approach to managing the development of the physical education and training space of the university requires a well-coordinated team capable of effective dialogue and interaction with all subjects of the physical education and training space of the university. The authors conclude that within the framework of social design it is necessary to develop a project that includes: 1) the rationale for the proposed solutions; 2) the process model of the organization as a whole; 3) parameters of the main processes (purposeful actions); 4) requirements for the personnel of the organization; 5) detailed design tasks.
