Abstract: the global energy sector is at a crossroads, coping with unprecedented changes and challenges related to digitalization, new forms of mobility, autonomous management and the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies. Unlike in the past, most new technologies are developed outside of the energy sector itself, but can have an unprecedented impact on energy markets and traditional energy industries. For the current energy industry, these changes offer both new advantages and operational and strategic risks. The research examines and discusses the developing concepts of energy security of the XXI century in the light of digitalization, new emerging breakthrough technologies and their consequences. In addition, the analysis examined the revolution in US shale oil and shale gas production, as well as what geo-economic and geopolitical consequences and changes from the increased use of new technologies are occurring for oil and gas companies, global oil and gas markets, and energy security.
