The concept of competitiveness is defined as one of the main factors affecting the efficiency of enterprises. The concept of competitive products is analyzed. The author points out that competitive products are recognized if their overall positive efficiency per unit of expenditure is greater than that of others, and the materiality of any of the aspects is quite acceptable to the buyer.

The market of meat products on the territory of Kazakhstan, since the 80-ies of the last century, is characterized. It is noted that it was during this period that the meat industry of Kazakhstan reached its heyday. The volume of meat production abroad exceeded 1.5 million tons (slaughter weight). At the same time, meat processing enterprises – combines, sausage shops, slaughterhouses, cold slaughterhouses, etc. – became widespread. During the perestroika period in Kazakhstan, the number of cattle and poultry decreased by 2-3 times, which caused a natural decrease in the volume of sources of raw materials for meat production, as well as a negative impact on the economic condition of all meat processing enterprises in the country. The current stage of development of the meat industry in Kazakhstan is characterized by a continuing trend to increase imports of poultry meat, sausages and canned meat. Production facilities for processing and storing meat are everywhere idle in the country.

As a result of a comparative assessment of indicators of import and export of meat products in Kazakhstan, factors that affect the competitiveness of domestic meat products are identified, which allows the author to develop measures to improve the competitiveness of meat and meat products.
