Abstract: within the framework of the modern economy, many companies operating in a competitive environment are forced to complete mergers and acquisitions in order to expand their activities, maintain market share, expand production and assets. Despite the fact that in the west this type of transaction is very popular, in our economic space they have been actively distributed only in the last 20 years. A M&A transaction is a complex process of integrating two or more companies interested in further development and success. In the process of the merger, it is important not only to evaluate correctly the participating companies, but also to assess correctly the risks that accompany this process. Russian companies take part in this process not only in the domestic market, but also in the foreign one, while often acting as buyers. As practice shows, domestic companies successfully complete M&A transactions, due to which we can conclude that the economy is moving to a new level. The article analyzes the current state of mergers and acquisitions of companies in Russia in the largest sectors that affect the country’s economy. The dynamics of the mergers and acquisitions of companies is also considered in detail, examples of previously conducted transactions are given. The most important problems associated with conducting transactions were investigated, and a forecast for the development of mergers and acquisitions of companies in Russia for 2020 was compiled. In addition, the article offers recommendations for Russian companies.
