SOCIOCULTURAL ASPECT OF URBAN INNOVATIONS IN NIZHNY NOVGOROD

Abstract: this article tackles the aspect of socio-cultural innovations in urban environment by considering its basic parameters such as culture in a broad sense of the term, the condition of the living fund, fashion in clothes, food peculiarities and transportation means. The character study of the main elements of changes in the image of the city’s milieu and follow up conclusions are made in the context of Nizhny Novgorod modifications. Surveillance is the principal method of research. By way of assumption, the rapid alterations in the architectural pattern of Nizhny Novgorod are reasoned by the intention to attribute to it the features of a capital city, in our case it is “the capital of the Volga Administrative Area”. Office buildings, shopping malls, entertainment centres and houses which were erected in the 90’s reduce historical and cultural value of earlier time constructions. The replacement of historical artifacts with new objects are supposed to create the conditions for new meanings to appear in altering realms. Transportation is closely related to the above mentioned issues as an integral part of the city’s milieu as the activities of a modern town dweller are socially multifaceted. The change in the people’s life ways in town is also manifested in the individual style of clothes whereas the variety of food preferences of the town population and available assortment of food items testify to consumption independence of seasonability. Thus, the dynamic changes of basic urban characteristics which are related to alterations in human minds and behaviour allow a conclusion that some of them need to be reconsidered.
