Abstract: the relevance of the research topic is determined by the importance of effective corporate governance in the modern world economy. The goal is to study the possibilities of using the principles of corporate governance formed in Japan in the conditions of Russian companies’ activities. The research uses the method of sociological analysis. The results of the research consist in revealing the fundamental relevance of the use of foreign experience by modern Russian corporations. Attention is paid to the problems that arise with a unilateral approach to solving this issue: the exclusive use of experience gained in Western countries. The prospects of studying and possible application of certain aspects of the management model formed in Japan are revealed. This model is studied from the point of view of modern sociology, which focuses on the social side of managerial relations. An overview of the socio-economic conditions prevailing in modern Japan, as well as the principles and features of the functioning of the national business is given. The article reveals the features of forming the goals facing modern Japanese corporations, the features of creating motivating working conditions, and the construction of a social hierarchy within organizations. Special attention is paid to such world-famous characteristics of the approach to corporate governance as lifetime employment, the dependence of salary and career growth rates on the length of service in the company, and thorough professional training. The problem of applying these principles of the Japanese model in Russian conditions is considered. At the same time, the importance of studying the Japanese experience in developing management principles, taking into account the peculiarities of civilizational and cultural development of our country, as well as its geographical location, is emphasized. As a conclusion, it is noted that certain principles of the Japanese model can be applied in Russian companies, provided a reasonable combination of maximum use of their own traditions and rational borrowing from outside.
