Abstract: the article describes the essence of the author’s understanding of the social qualities of the convicts’ personality that are implemented in the process of penitentiary prevention. The author builds a modern paradigm of socially significant qualities of convicts determined by changes in socio-economic relations in the country. The research is based on data obtained by the author in the course of an expert survey conducted in 2016 in correctional institutions of the Stavropol territory. The analysis of the obtained data allowed determining the qualitative content of the social qualities of the convicts’ personality that are implemented in the process of penitentiary prevention. Taking into account that fact the process is very dynamic, the author considers the social qualities of convicts, not as a result of penitentiary socialization, but as a “transitional” factor. In the special literature, it is considered that this approach is well established in practice. At the same time, significant problems in the implementation of penitentiary prevention in modern conditions are considered: insufficient consideration of socially significant personal qualities of convicts. As a result, there is a situation when the goal setting stipulated in the current legislation can be considered as unrealizable. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate how the social qualities of convicts can be implemented in prison prevention through traditional management technologies.
