CONTINUING EDUCATION IN THE PUBLIC SERVICE SYSTEM: TRENDS AND PROSPECTS

Abstract: the article considers the relevance of the concept of continuing education in the public service system. The author analyzes the existing scientific points of view on the concept of “continuing education”, as a result of which it is possible to formulate a definition according to which continuing education is a process of obtaining certain knowledge that is necessary for students to perform fully their functional work duties. Special attention is paid to the specifics of the activities of civil servants. It is proved that a civil servant belongs to a special category of employees whose status creates an urgent need for continuing education. The key advantages of continuing education are highlighted, in particular, the growth of employee professionalism, increasing their competence, adaptability to new conditions, a combination of strategic thinking and efficiency in performing their functional duties, etc. It is established that continuous education of a civil servant is implemented through additional professional education, service training, etc. The article outlines the range of problems that exist in the system of continuing education of civil servants. Based on the results of the study, conceptual conclusions are formulated about the importance of continuing education in the public service system and priority areas for its development in the medium term.
