THE PLACE AND ROLE OF THE TOURISM INDUSTRY AS A FACTOR OF REGIONAL COMPETITIVENESS (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE KEMEROVO REGION)

Abstract: over the past few years, tourism has become one of the key strategic priorities of Russia’s economic development. This is due to the scale of Russia’s existing potential for developing inbound and especially domestic tourism. The article deals with the issues of justification of decisions in the field of management of tourism development resources in the Kemerovo region. Factors and conditions that directly affect the development of the tourism industry in the region are presented. It is proved that the competitive advantages of the Kemerovo region, which can form the basis for the formation of a competitive offer in the tourism market, include both the features of the terrain and geographical location of the Kemerovo region, and the strategic priorities of regional management. The analysis identified the most promising areas of tourism in the Kemerovo region. The conditions for the development of tourism in Kuzbass are considered, which, if used effectively, can be transformed into competitive advantages of the region to promote Kuzbass in the tourist market of the country and the world. It is concluded that the increasing role of the tourism industry in the structure of the region’s economy may be a factor in improving the competitiveness of Kuzbass as a whole.
