Abstract: the study analyzed the formation processes of the sociological uncertainty reduction theory by Charles Berger and Richard Calabriz, the problem of its scientific development and practical application of relatively new types of communication studied. The factors of reducing the level of uncertainty are determined. The study notes the complexity of the state of uncertainty and the conditionality of this state as a lack of information, and its redundancy. Uncertainty causes ambiguous reflection among the participants in communications and has a dynamics determined by the degree of its possible change. Uncertainty situations are expressed as a function of the number of variables, factors, objects, relationships that must be considered whenever decisions are made. The scientific article provides a scientific interpretation of the uncertainty reduction theory in various conditions of its application, identifies factors for reducing the level of uncertainty in the system of public communications and considers the problems of its explanation in the practice of public and personal communications. Uncertainty reduction theory provides an explanation for the behavior of people interacting with new people. Most of the basis underlying the uncertainty reduction theory apply to most, if not all types of interpersonal communications and is constantly expanding.
