MANAGEMENT OF A MEDICAL ORGANIZATION: SEARCH FOR CONCEPTS AND APPROACHES

Abstract: the article discusses current methods of managing medical organizations. The purpose is to highlight and briefly analyze the key approaches to managing the activities of medical institutions. The field of management of medical organizations has only a few decades and is still at the beginning of its journey.

The article highlights two trends in the contemporary field of medical management: general, represented by techniques originating from industrial and service management, and clinical-specific, taking into account the unique features of the medical care.

Each of the trends has its own merits. The article provides examples of the use of general management methods in the medical field. Methods of total quality management, statistical control, and lean thinking deserve the utmost attention. However, these methods do not sufficiently take into account the specifics of medical care. Clinical-specific methods are still less developed, but they already have encouraging results. It is concluded that the future of medical management science will depend on the achievement of balance and fruitful interaction between general and clinical-specific approaches.

The results of this study can be applied to the issues of managing medical organizations. They can help clarify the possibilities and limitations of medical management concepts and make decisions regarding the application of a particular management technology.
