Abstract: the article considers the opportunities for raw material regions, opened by the diversification of the economy of these regions, which will improve the quality of life of the population of cities. The study of the possibilities of diversification of the economy of a modern economic entity at the micro – and macro-level is considered from the standpoint of the application of the concept of “Smart city” for raw materials regions. The need for economic diversification in the industrial structure is confirmed by synthesis and study of statistical data on the volume of innovative goods, works, services, production share of technology-intensive industries in the gross domestic product, value added technology-intensive industries in a gross regional product creative activity. The last two indicators are studied in the context of the subjects of the Russian Federation.
The studied statistical data characterizing the activities of small businesses in the context of economic activities confirm the realization of opportunities to use their potential in the process of diversification. As a result of the data analysis, the need for diversification of the economy of the country and regions with the possibility of using the potential of small and medium-sized businesses is stated. It is also noted that the directions of diversification of economic activities take into account the formed features of the economy of raw regions.
Undoubtedly, the achievement of the proper level of quality of life as the main indicator in the strategic socio-economic planning is ensured by the functioning of the organizations of the differentiated digital economy of the regions. In turn, the use of “smart” technologies and making “smart” decisions is an integral part of modern life. Research within the territory of KHMAO-Ugra allowed to identify organizations that are actively involved in the promotion of the project “Smart city” in different areas and directions and can serve as a basis for the development of the main directions of diversification of the economy of commodity regions in the paradigm of the concept “Smart city”.
