The concept of “drug addiction” is interpreted from the point of view of such approaches as sociological (addictive behavior, when people seek to create some illusory vacuum for themselves, to escape from the real world), psychological (social phenomenon, which affects all spheres of human life), medical (a disease in which a person is unable to control his needs, having mental and physical stages of addiction), legal (criminal activity).

The main approaches to the interpretation of the concept of “drug addiction” are highlighted: the bihevioral approach (the social environment affects the person in one way or another, and the dependent person in his environment only has the same drug addicts); cognitive approach (people are divided into two types: some people attribute all their actions to personal reasons, other people explain the meaning of their actions based on external circumstances); transanct analysis (proper individual development is related to Bern’s concept of personality); a systemic approach (a family illness where an dependent person draws his or her family into his or her illness).
The social effectiveness of the prevention program of 12 steps is analyzed. In today’s world, it was very common to talk about drug addiction.
